Preparing for Purim

Continuing on with my February/Adar I goals (see more about my Passover planner HERE.):

  • Taming the pantry, fridge, and freezer beasts
  • Planning and prepping meals AROUND Passover (that don’t need the full kitchen)
  • Getting everything ready for Purim
  • Miscellaneous errands, purchases, and bargain hunting.

Next comes Purim prep. There is a lot that you can do to ease that crunch. Now I’m a theme-loving kind of girl, so I planned ahead for that. if that’s not you, skip the theme parts. But you can certainly keep your eyes open for good things to incorporate already!

  • Think theme. Brainstorm with family if they are interested in participating and decide!
  • Come up with costumes. Kids count more than adults, usually, but we still like to dress up for the night reading!
  • Buy/make/find costumes. Try them on to see if anything needs to be adjusted.
  • Think about mishloach manot. How much can you spend on it total?
  • Who do you give to? I have a running list from years past, so I update it, but I have a good idea of how many and who we will give to.
  • Start searching for containers and contents. Get them ready by decorating as needed.
  • Make cards or tags and decorate as time allows.
  • Plan when to buy and/or make the rest of the contents.
  • Think about your seudah: invite guests, menu plan, and prep anything you can early.
  • Check out readings if you are far from one–when can you go?
  • Get or make groggers/noisemakers for the kids

I have already ordered or purchased everything for Purim, with the exception of DH’s costume, which we’re still working on, and our cupcakes, which we will make closer to the holiday. The containers are in the process of being decorated as time allows and our packaged contents are set aside together. Our seudah is planned and we have the noisemakers (guess how I know that?!)

It will be good to have all this planning and prep out of the way!
