This week, we’re making Pesach without the pressure of the real Pesach. 🙂

That’s right, I said it. The “P” word.

If you’re like many people, just saying Pesach or Passover is something that might make you breathe a little faster. Some people like to start really early, some start the day before. But hey, we’re not really starting now – we’re just taking some extra time to go through the parsha. Our Shabbat meals this week are going to be extra special!

Parshat Bo contains the last three plagues and the commandments for the new moon, the Passover sacrifice, and tefillin. We’re focusing on the Pesach aspects: matzah, bitter herbs, and lamb stew. Here is our Shabbat menu:

Friday night (we’re having vegetarian guests):

  • Challah (we don’t make motzi on matza unless it’s Pesach, but if you do, you could use it!)
  • Matza ball soup with homemade matza for dipping
  • Romaine salad
  • Hummus, roasted eggplant salad, zhug
  • Salmon with a marror (horseradish) crust (something like this recipe)
  • Cookies

Saturday lunch:

  • Challah
  • Hummus, roasted eggplant salad, zhug
  • Homemade matza for dipping
  • Romaine salad (with hardboiled eggs–see these Passover ingredients?)
  • Moroccan lamb stew
  • Spice rubbed roasted chicken
  • broccoli kugel, sweet potato pie, sweet noodle kugel
  • doesn’t-taste-like-Passover (because it’s not) peanut bars

How about you?
