52 Week Challenge Week 10: Purim

Gaily wrapped baskets of sweets, drinks and ot...

Can you believe we’re in the 10th week of the year already?

This week’s extra energy is for Purim. It’s celebrated on Wednesday night and Thursday (March 7 and 8), preceded by a Wednesday fast (Taanit Esther). I’ve written on finding deals for Purim and a little more in depth on preparing for Purim.

This week is the time to catch up and do what you haven’t done yet for Purim and celebrate!

Remember that there are four mitzvot to make sure you cover: listen to the story (megillah), mishloach manot (gift of food), give charity (matanot la’evyonim), and have a festive meal (seuda).

A few words on mishloach manot: There are a lot of websites with ideas on mishloach manot (like here and here). Many people make big themed mishloach manot and spend a lot of time on them, but plenty of people don’t. This is one of those times when it can be hard to keep up with the Cohens, both in expense and in effort! It’s a good time to do what you can do and be happy about it – it is Adar, after all!

I happen to really enjoy making fun mishloach manot, so we do. I like to be creative and do a bit of a theme. But I definitely don’t go crazy. I’ve heard of people pulling all-nighters to get their mishloach manot done! (That wouldn’t work for me – then who can enjoy the seudah or the day?)

Have a great week, and a Purim sameach!
