What’s your housekeeping barometer?

Flylady has her kitchen sink. A slob comes clean has her bed. And I have my entryway. Well, HAD, since we’re leaving this house for a (temporary) work move. I don’t know what will be in whatever new house we will live in yet.

But every person has her tipping point, her barometer.

A barometer is something that gives you an idea of the way the weather is going that day. So, too, do we all have our housework challenges and the one area that kind of sets the housekeeping mood for the day. Once that one area is neat, it makes it easier to get on with cleaning/decluttering/straightening all day long. What starts the chain for you?

Since mine is (was?) my entryway, I could make a specific and directed effort to be sure it was clean and uncluttered each day. Once that was done, I was more likely to clean up in the kitchen as messes were made (and trust me, they were made), and stay on top of the house throughout the day (instead of handling it in one fell swoop after the mess-making munchkins laid their sleepy heads down for the night). I think my kitchen counter was a secondary barometer, too – that could drag me down or lift me up.

So what is your barometer for the housework?

I love your blog! My tipping point was last week. My oldest son was taking a shower & he accidently left the water in the sink on, with a washcloth blocking the drain. This was the day that he decided to take a long shower & the water in the bathroom sink began to overflow. Water was everywhere! Well, it took a few days to dry out our rugs & wash the mounds of towels we used to clean up the mess. This mess put me very behind on my usual laundry & now I am feeling a bit overwhelmed with the piles of laundry. I’ll feel relieved when everything is back in order! Good luck with your move!

I know how that can be – laundry piling up is a stress point for me! I have a good system to handle it, but when it’s still in process, it can definitely be tough.

      Thanks for stopping by!
