A peek into the bathroom (kids)

Kids are bathrooms can be a scary combination! And my kids like science experiments–boy, have I found some doozies there!

Things there are prone to being used in very creative (and messy) ways, so we have minimized the contents in the bathroom down to the necessities. That means a stool, kid’s seat, baby bath, shampoo/body wash, and a few toys with a toy shelf (we could have it mounted on the wall, but…). We also have very empty drawers, with just toothbrushes and fluoride rinse, bandaids, and diapers. And that’s it – empty space…but with kids who love to experiment, that’s safe space to us. (Really, I could gross you out with some of the things I have found. Who know that cups could be so gross, or that a person could use bath colors in that way! I mean, apparently they did, but I didn’t need to know!!)

I wanted to make the bathroom look fun, so I bought these stick on dots to brighten the place up. And the towels and toothbrushes are color coded by kid.

How do you make your bathroom work?

I remember those days! Thankfully, the kids’ bathroom was away from public view! LOL

As the kids grew up and became better able to take care of the daily chores in the home, they were taught how to clean and organize things. Each child had a drawer in a tall “lingerie” chest that was kept in the bathroom. What they kept in there was up to them, but they had to stay out of each other’s things.

We added some fun by using towels with the children’s names embroidered on them along with an applique of their choice.

early on, of course, it was my job to clean the kids’ bathroom, but each child was taught how to do various tasks so that their “space” could be managed more easily. We handled their bedrooms pretty much the same way.

Experiments and adventures were experienced by all!

    Hi Dianne!

I’m working with my kids to manage things, too, but my 2 and 1 year olds generally get into everything. And my older kids are pretty good about cleaning up (in fact, it’s part of their weekly chores), but sometimes I’m amazed with what they come up with. Kids are so curious.

As they get older, I’m looking forward to passing more responsibility to them!
