52 Week Challenge Week 51: Toiletries

English: Monoprix shaving gel. Svenska: Rakgel...

Last week, we rearranged the pantry and food storage areas. My storage areas also contain toiletries, and I went them more this week. In this, I include regular things like shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste and toothbrush, and mouthwash, as well as things like cotton swabs, cotton balls, wipes of all types, and other things.

Start by pulling them all out and sorting. I find that there are things I forget about if I don’t. Then put back what you’ll use, note what you need to start stocking up on, and donate of otherwise dispose of things you don’t want.

I find that I have a lot of travel / sample sizes. I get them in the mail or from a hotel, and sometimes I don’t use them. Here are several ideas of what you can do with them:

  • Donate to a shelter (many food boxes in stores will also take unopened toiletries)
  • Donate to a mikvah (depending on the what is near you)
  • Put them into your guest room welcome basket
  • Keep a reasonable amount for travel

Be sure to figure out a good storage solution for these. Both  when I stored them under my sink and since they’ve been on a shelf, stacking bins were great tot maximize the space. But try to avoid stashing them away so they get lost.

Another fun thing: shaving cream in this house is a kid bath activity. Put the kids in, then the shaving cream and let them sculpt. When they are done, add the water and wash them off.

Now the pantry really looks nice! (And I know what I have and what I want to watch for sales!)
