Staying motivated – how do you do it?

I think everyone has times where life feels like it’s headed uphill. And sometimes, the momentum is gone and it’s time to find it again. How do you do it?

Well’ I’ve been there several times this year, but I keep pulling back and getting things done (most of the time, anyway!) Here are my best tips:

1. When it stops working, change it! Everything hits a slow spot sometimes, and sometimes what you need is something different. So try out once a week cleaning instead of every day, or break it up into daily chores, or sign up for a reminder service (some people love flylady, some people (like me!) find it overwhelming), or find a buddy to work with, or make yourself accountable to friends, etc…find something and change it. But…

2. Remember “Done is better than perfect.” Sometimes, the lack of time or motivation to get it “just right” stops me from starting. But this motto helps me do what I can – and really, isn’t it true? I notice the not-perfect sometimes, but most people don’t. And done is GOOD!

3. Give yourself a break and go back to the basics. For example, you could choose 5 things – or 3, or whatever number works for you – and work on those things. Leave the rest out of it for now. Just focus on what is critical and let the rest slide. It’s a break for everyone, and sometimes, it’s very refreshing.

4. Plan a reward for yourself to work toward. Maybe it’s a babysitter so you can shop alone, or a perfect piece of chocolate, an iced coffee, or x amount in a fund toward something you’ve really been wanting (new sheital, new outfit, pretty tichel?)

Obviously, you can’t do each of those tips each time, but mixing and matching helps find that lost motivation.

What do you do to get your motivation back?
