Menu planning Monday (Sukkot part 1 edition)

Lots going on this week, but we still have to eat, right? Sukkot starts on Wednesday night, so those are fancier than normal meals, all with at least some guests (sleepover guests this time!) Welcome to the fall weather, too.

Sunday: Pizza bagels for lunch, dinner out for shwarma/falafel — a treat for setting up our Sukkah!

Monday: (no leftovers this week!) Mexican-make your own burrito bar

Tuesday: (guests arrive!) herbed feta foccacia and spinach salad

Wednesday lunch: pasta

Wednesday night for __3 + 3__ people (meat):

  • Challah, Salads (eggplant, carrot, pepper, zhug, olive, hummus)
  • Main dish: kung pao chicken (bbq chicken for Savta)
  • Veggie and sides: Roasted sweet potato fries, rice
  • Dessert: Fruit, peanut bars, cinnamon spice cookies
  • Spiced apple cider (our Sukkot tradition!)

Thursday lunch for __8 + 5__ people (meat)

  • Challah and salads (fish in olive relish)
  • Main: Lamb stew
  • Veggies: cauliflower popcorn, honey cilantro carrots, squash kugel, spinach kugel
  • Starch: Couscous
  • Dessert: Fruit, peanut bars, cinnamon spice cookie cups with bourbon whip

Thursday night for __3 + 3__ people (meat)

  • Challah and salads
  • Main dish: honey mustard chicken
  • Veggies: Roasted spiced potatoes, broccoli kugel
  • Starch: Noodle kugel
  • Dessert: Fruit, peanut bars, cinnamon spice cookies, spiced apple cider

Friday lunch for __3 + 3__ people (dairy)

Friday night for __3 + 3__ people (meat)

  • Challah and salads
  • Main: lamb stew
  • Veggie: spinach kugel
  • Starch: couscous
  • Dessert: Fruit, peanut bars, cinnamon spice cookies, spiced apple cider

Shabbat lunch for ___12 + 3__ people (meat)

  • Challah and salads
  • Moroccan fish balls
  • Shredded beef sandwiches
  • Spice rubbed chicken
  • Veggies: honey cilantro carrots, squash kugel, spinach kugel, roasted potatoes
  • Starch: noodle kugel
  • Dessert: Fruit, peanut bars, cinnamon spice cookie cups with bourbon whip, spiced apple cider

Breakfasts: donuts (another tradition!), cereal, yogurt

Sunday lunch: French toast casserole (leftover challah)

Sunday dinner: Leftover gala!
