Passover meals to go

Yam khai dao (Thai script: ยำไข่ดาว) is a sala...

On Passover, more than ever, we have to bring our food with us when we go out – and so many are going out over chol hamoed (the middle days of Passover)! But we’re more limited in what we can bring than normal, too. And anything prepackaged is REALLY expensive (if you can even find something not terrible).

So what’s to eat on the road?

Matzah or popover/roll sandwiches (either assembled ahead of time or on site) with:

  • egg salad
  • tuna salad
  • cold cuts
  • sliced cheese
  • cream cheese or butter (and honey or jam)
  • dipped into salads/spreads (like eggplant, olive, zhug – many regular salads can be made on Passover)

Whole/sliced Fruit (apples, oranges, melon, bananas, grapes…)

Prepared veggies (salads/spreads, carrots, cucumbers, celery, salad, the ubiquitous potato…)

String cheese, cottage cheese, and yogurt

Hardboiled eggs

Desserts: chocolate, matza crack, cookies, marshmallows, meringues…

For drinks, you can spend a lot of money on juiceboxes (today, they we selling them for $1.25 each – $5 for a 4 pack!). Why not just take a whole bottle of juice, water, or soda and some cups, and when it’s time, share?

What do you have to add?
